The main station in Skopje was built by Kenzo Tange as a part of the overall vision for a new city. Nearly the whole city was destroyed by a very big earthquake in 1963. The UNO raised a competition for the reconstruction that was won by Tange. Only a few parts of the plan and it’s buildings were realized until the mid of the 1970ies. Among them the train station, the opera and the central post office.
All these buildings are not much favored by the current government. Most of them are in a poor state and some are in danger to be teared off soon. I took the chance to grab some photos of the main station in September 2016.
